Y-TAP to organise First East African Youth Arts Exchange and development program
On 1st and 2nd August 2008 Y-TAP under its YADEN Program will host youth groups from Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and Three groups from different cities in the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht) for a youth Arts and development exchange project titled XROADS ‘Peace Xchange’. The project will be held in Nairobi and will include out-reach activities in different informal settlements/slums, art based workshops, open discussions on peace themes and a public performance festival to e held at Y-TAP’s Liberty Centre.

Y-TAP Hosts a successful Kenya Artists Forum and festival (KAFF)
On 10th May 2008 Y-TAP held a successful Kenya Artists Forum and festival(KAFF) 2008 edition. Over 35 groups showcased their work with ministry of Youth and Sports, URAIA, OXFAMNovib, National Youth Agenda (NAYA), Pamoja Youth, SAFE Kenya among others attending and giving presentations to the hundreds of the participants in attendance.

Y-TAP moves to its new offices at The Liberty Centre, Pangani
As from 1st of May 2008 Y-TAP moved to its offices and base at formerly Liberty Cinema at Pangani shopping centre in Nairobi. The premises renamed the Liberty Centre houses a 1200 seater auditorium, office space, rehearsal/meeting space and Y-TAP hopes to establish a music and video studio, A weekly open podium showcase, an It and information centre among other activities.... feel free to pay us a visit and share your ideas on the facility.

Y-TAP call for tolerance among young people in affected areas of Nairobi.
Sami Gathii on behalf of Y-TAP called upon young people to refrain from violence, threats of violence and intimidation as the country stands on crossroads. Sami Gathii asked the youth to be aware of being incited to violence by politicians and the ruling class but to instead reach out to their fellow youths and motivate them to embrace peace and non violent conflict resolution methods. Using the SASAA project held at the French Cultural and Cooperation Centre (FCCC) on 16th of April, Sami Gathii invited the youths to join Y-Tap in engaging the arts to participate in the healing, reconciliation and reconstruction (people not infrastructure) Peace efforts.

Y-TAP Joins in peace, reconciliation and reconstruction efforts.
Following the violence and crisis that engulfed most of Kenya after the disputed presidential elections and unfortunately which took an ethnic dimension young people were at the centre sometimes as incited perpetrators as well as innocent victims. Y-TAP will run various community activities using the Sasaa (Lets Play Sing Dance and TALK) talk show model to assist communities embrace peace, reconciliation and healing. URAIA is in discussion to fund Y-TAP for a six month intervention project starting end of 2008.

Y-TAP appoints a new programs coordinator.
Bikundo Onyari is the new Programs Coordinator at Y-TAP starting from 1st April 2008. He has vast experience working with civil society groups on issues such as governance, entrepreneurship and HIV and gender issues. Congratulations Bikundo and welcome to the team.

Y-TAP selected to coordinate Nairobi WE CAN Campaign
Funded by OXFAMNovib and OXFAM GB the campaign is aimed at changing altitudes regarding violence against women. The 5 year Campaign (2008 -2012) will run in HECA region (Horn, East and Central Africa). In Kenya there are five regions Western, Rift Valley, Central and Nairobi (including its environs) Y-TAP has been selected as the Focal organisation in Nairobi tasked in coordinating the Nairobi alliance activities. A great honour and expression of confidence bestowed on us.

Y-TAP organises a successful Exchange program In the Netherlands
Y-TAP in partnership with CROSSROAD Productions of the Netherlands hosted 12 young artists dawn from 10 different youth groups in Nairobi for a two month exchange project as from January till March 2008. The XROADS 2008 project involved touring schools, performing, attending and conducting workshops and holding open discussions. Owing to the situation in Kenya they were hosted by the labour party (PVDA) and Institute of Social Studies (ISS) to create awareness on the situation in Kenya and suggest solutions.... in attendance was Kenyan Ambassador to the Netherlands, Members of European parliament, researchers and representatives from different funding and developmental organisations.

Y-TAP sponsors Victor for a 3 month theatre course in the Netherlands.
Victor Mutendei Osoro has been selected to attend a three month Theatre making course at Utrecht school of the Arts in The Netherlands. He will attend classes on mime, Physical theatre, Dance, directing and visual arts besides exchanging with Erasmus students from Czech Republic, Fin land, Denmark, Belgium etc.....
